However, the important detail is that the gardener saw smoke coming from the house and found it very alarming. As you can see in the picture, there is a burnt cake on the kitchen table. So, the woman was clearly outside the kitchen “for some purpose” when the theft occurred. Therefore, the woman is the thief in this puzzle.
