Draupadi Murmu Husband, Personal Life, Education, Family
Draupadi Murmu was born on 20 June 1958, in Uparbeda village of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha in a tribal family of Santali to Biranchi Narayan Tudu. Both her father and grandfather were village headmen under the Panchayati Raj System.
Draupadi Murmu married Shyam Charan Murmu, a banker who died in 2014. The couple had two sons, both of whom passed away, and a daughter, Itishri Murmu.
Draupadi Murmu’s teaching career
Droupadi Murmu started her career as a school teacher before joining state politics. Murmu worked as an Assistant Professor at Shri Aurobindo Institute of Integrated Education and Research, Rairangpur, and as a Junior Assistant at the Irrigation Department of the Government of Odisha.
Draupadi Murmu’s political career
Draupadi Murmu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1997 and was elected councilor of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. In 2000, she became the President of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat and also served as National Vice President of the BJP Scheduled Tribes Morcha.

Draupadi Murmu: Governor of Jharkhand
Draupadi Murmu was sworn in as Governor of Jharkhand on 18 May 2015 and became the first female Governor of Jharkhand. She is the first female tribal leader from Odisha to be appointed Governor of an Indian state.
Draupadi Murmu as Governor of Jharkhand in 2017 refused to give assent to a bill passed by the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly to amend the Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act, 1908 and the Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act, 1949.
The bill seeks to empower Tribes to use their lands for commercial purposes, while ensuring that land ownership remains unchanged.

In June 2022, Draupadi Murmu was nominated by the BJP as the National Democratic Alliance’s candidate for President of India for the 2022 elections. She visited various states as part of the Campaign. 2022 Presidential candidate across the country to seek support for his candidacy, from BJP lawmakers and other opposition parties.

Draupadi Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of India
Draupadi Murmu was on July 25, 2022, sworn in as the 15th President of India. Her oath was administered by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana in the Central Hall of Parliament. Outgoing President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Draupadi Murmu arrived in Parliament in a ceremony just before the swearing-in ceremony began.
In her speech, President of India Draupadi Murmu thanked the MPs and MLAs for electing her as India’s first tribal President. In her first speech as President of the world’s largest democracy, she said: “I am the first President of the country to be born in Independent India. We will have to accelerate our efforts to fulfill the expectations that our freedom fighters had with the citizens of Independent India.”
