In the study conducted from March 2016 to July 2017, researchers examined the perceived characteristics of six facial expressions: “happy”, “sad”, “fearful”, “angry”, “surprised” and “disgusted”. They studied 107 people aged 60 and older who were diagnosed with dementia. Finally, it was revealed that a patient with Lewy Body disease can recognize happiness and that it is the only facial expression that is not affected by age, onset, and duration of the disease. Research shows that these people also have difficulty understanding expressions of fear.
