101 years old, ‘world’s oldest practicing doctor’ shares 3 rules for keeping the brain sharp

Research shows a correlation between retirement and increased cognitive decline. That’s why the doctor hasn’t retired yet and neither has his wife. He shared: “My wife Sara, 66 years old, still practices psychoanalysis and psychiatry at the age of 89.

“My job requires me to look at a number of medical topics and think through issues,” he explains. Staying up to date with the latest advances in neuroscience keeps my brain busy.”

Outside of work, other things that keep him mentally stimulated include volunteering, pursuing hobbies, and learning new skills.

“For example, in the early ’60s, I attended law school at night, after practicing medicine full-time. I passed the Ohio Bar Exam at age 67,” he shares.
